Title:  Technology Solution Brochures [Marketing]

Purpose: to highlight the scope and benefits of consulting solutions*.  The debate between IT services [aka “staffing, body shop, etc…”] and solutions [aka “projects, ‘value-based’ services,’ etc…] continues to rage in both the investment analyst and IT consulting firm communities.  Enterprise valuations generally skew positively for those whose brand is associated with “solutions” since it’s assumed that margins are greater with this engagement type. 

In my opinion the issue is moot as what is most important is the value that you generate for the client independent of the mechanism of payment [i.e., time and materials vs. bulk].    Furthermore, there is a wide range of inconsistency amongst IT consulting firms in how gross margin is calculated.
